THIS AREA IS FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY. ALL SHELLS AND SANDDOLLARS WE SELL HAVE BEEN CLEANED. (READY TO USE).
HOW TO CLEAN SEA SHELLS FOUND ON THE BEACH WITH NO LIVE ANIMAL INSIDE:
Bleaching: Soak the seashells in a 50-50 solution of bleach and water. The length of time depends on
the type of seashells and the quantity of seashells being cleaned. Just be sure to remove them
when the "periostracum" is gone. The periostracum is the flaky, leathery covering that covers
most live seashells. IF THE SHELL HAS A LIVE ANIMAL INSIDE, SIMPLY BOIL OR
MICROWAVE THE SHELL. REMOVE THE DEAD ANIMAL BEFORE BLEACHING.
2. Shining: If you want to give your seashells a nice finish, you can wipe them with a mineral or baby oil.
HOW TO CLEAN SAND DOLLARS:
1. SOAK THEM IN FRESH WATER UNTIL THE WATER STAYS PRETTY
CLEAN. (THE WATER TURNS BROWN). CHANGE WATER AS NEEDED.
2. SOAK THEM IN A 50/50 SOLUTION OF WATER & BLEACH. NO MORE
THAN 5-8 MIN. (REMOVE THEM WHEN THEY LOOK NICE AND WHITE).
NOTE: IF THEY ARE IN TOO LONG, THEY WILL CRUMBLE AND BREAK.
3. RINSE UNDER FRESH WATER, AND ALLOW THEM TO AIR DRY. REPEAT
ABOVE STEPS IF YOU WOULD STILL LIKE TO MAKE THEM WHITER.
4. TO MAKE THE SAND DOLLARS HARD - Mix together a white glue and
water in equal portions. Take a sponge brush and completely
cover the sanddollars with the mixture. Let dry
thoroughly.
